[quote:55964f9227="lronhaar"]I was hoping your estimate would include the cost of a rebuilt engine. I’m assuming that the cost of a long block would be higher than a short block, but that the labor costs might be lower. At this truck’s age and mileage, is a lng block a better “investment
The Jimmy broke down on a trip into the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. It is currently parked outside the only repair shop in a very small town that we’ve never been to before, and where we know nobody. If the mechanic calls us after doing some diagnostics, we want to know if his price is reasonable or a rip-off..[/quote:55964f9227]
i didn't price the engine for a reason. Prices range wildly depending on who did the re-manufacturing, you could even buy a new crate engine from GM. The cheapest route would probably be to have your engine rebuilt by a machine shop.
I looked up the time for a long block, because a short block is only half of a rebuilt engine. A short block doesn't include heads. And you didn't indicate what part of the engine failed.
and speaking of a failed part. It would be unusual for engine to need to be completely rebuilt with only 70,000 miles on it.
What is the repair shop saying is the problem?
And don't let them say, "the engine is blown."
