1998 GMC Jimmy V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Car will go in all gears but reverse.
is it possible to have a particle repair to the transmission just to get it back running

check the transmission fluid level. does the fluid that is in there now have a burnt smell to it.? The system might need to be flushed and refilled.
