Electrical problem
2005 GMC Canyon 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My fan blower stopped working on position #3 on the dial. It worked on other numbers. So I changed the resistor. Now the blower does not work on positions 1 & 2? What do you like the problem may be?

Hi [email protected],

Thank you for the donation.

Symptoms indicates the replaced resistor is possibly bad.

Did you perform a test on the resistor?

No, I took it out of the box and replaced it with the old one. How do Ii test it to see if it works? I installed it and discovered that the blower now does not work on posisiotn #2. The original problem was the blower didn't work on position # 3. What's next?

Do the following test.

1. Turn ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect the blower motor resistor assembly.
3. Turn ignition ON with engine OFF.
4. Probe the LOW( 1) and MED (2) blower motor control circuits at the blower motor resistor assembly, with a test lamp that is connected to battery positive voltage. At the same time, place the blower motor switch in the appropriate speed position for the circuit being tested.

Does the test lamp illuminate on both the control circuits?

If yes, test both motor control circuit for a short to ground.

If no, test the applicable blower motor control circuit for an open or high resistance.
