1997 GMC C1500 will not go into gear

My vehicle will not go into gear. The shift cable was replaced and all of the fuses were checked also. What could the problem possibly be?

if the shifter is connected and its not 4wd and the transfer case is not in neutral then your transmission is no good and needs to be rebuilt.
