I have a 1973 GMC 1500 truck (350 V8) and it dies when I put it in gear. It will idle fine and I can rev the engine with no problem but as soon as I shift it in to gear it dies. I can get it to go into reverse and it seems to work okay.
It has been running good up until now and I am wondering if it is a fuel problem, carb problem, or tranny problem? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

sounds like tranny problems. I would guess that the forward clutch pack is locked and this would be like popping the clutch on a standard tranny. if it runs good in rev. and idles it kinda eliminates fuel and carb. there could be a chafed wire that grounds the ignition when the engine torques over when going into gear. check the wiring to the dist. for problems. good luck
