The belt was broke at idle when a rag got stuck around crank. I see the marks on the crankshaft clearly. I set the engine to TDC. The camshaft has a "E" with raised dot near the teeth. It also has a "I" with raised dot that looks like a #1. There is also a letter "E" directly under that by the center camshaft nut. IF I set the the mark to raised E with dot , the distributer does not point to number 1 and looks like 180 out. When you look to where the "E" with raised dot is at this alinment, it would be at 7 O'clock. If I set the camshaft to the "I" with E underneath by center nut, then the distibuter points to number 1. Is this the correct "E" to set it to? or did the distributor go 180 out and I should set camshaft to the "E" with raised dot by teeth? I can't see how the distibuter could be 180 out.

Your not dreaming! If cam is set to mark, it's 180 degrees out and dist is pointing to #4....Put E 180 off, set all the rest and turn engine by hand to make sure its freewheeling. Make sure #1 is at TDC...I have not done one of these, but I have read comments by other mechanics who have!
