Engine Performance problem

I have a 1991 Geo Tracker Lsi with a 1.6L TFI engine in it. It drives mores or less ok with it dying occasionally. However, starting the other day it has died a total of 8 times... 8 times in 3 days, that seems a little strange to me, don't you think?
It nearly always happens at a stop sign and always happens when I hit the accelerator. The engine hesitates, sputters then dies. If I try and restart it right then, it won't start, but if I wait 5-10 minutes and try it, or if I jump start it, it will start.
Could I possibly have a leak in my vaccuum lines somewhere?
