1991 Geo Prizm 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I was wondering if there were any special tools or parts necessary for the removal and installation of the shock on this particular vehicle. I am trying to replace the right rear shock and having trouble removing the shock.

You should replace struts in pairs, so both rear struts should be replaced.

The biggest problem is that the strut to knuckle bolts are large and take a lot of force to remove. It is best to use an impact wrench.

The strut should be taken to a shop with a spring compressor to remove the old spring and install it on the new strut.
On some cars you can buy "quick struts" which include new spring already installed.
