1991 Geo Prism 4 cylinder 2 wheel drive

My Car is hard to start only when the motor is cold, when it has been running a while it starts fine. Now it is cold and rainy and it will not start at all. Yesterday it wourld hit but not turn over, my son checked spark plugs and things, but to no avail. Finally after all day trying, it started I belive because it was dirier outside. It ran great and after it warmed up it started up fine at least 5 more times, this moring it was cold and rainly again, and same problem as yesterday moring, What would cause it not to start when damp. I believe I have heard of this but do not recall the cause.\
