Engine Performance problem

My 1990 Geo prizm will start up just fine ion the morning or after work, but as soon as I get to the first stop light or stop sign, when i begin to accelerate, the car just wont go. It just lightly sputters and barely moves for about 5 or 10 seconds and then it takes off normally. The car will continue to do this at every stop light until the car has been driving for about 10 to 15 minutes at which point this problem stops completely and the car runs perfectly. What do you think is causing this?
