Transmission problem
1995 Geo Metro Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Manual 240000 miles

5th gear is out-it started by accelerating fast, it would pop out of gear- then to the point i had to hold it in gear- now it does not even hold 5th even holding it in gear- just slips and grinds? is this a repairable problem-the car is very valuable to me right now- just wondering if i need to find a new transmission or not, thank you for your time- dclarkjr

You may need a new trans to remedy this, however if your fifth gear is only out you may be able to rebuild the trans if this is the only gear affected. You will need to have this looked at by a professional to determine how bad the damage is.

My 89 trans (5spd) went bad w/ 64 mi left on the warrenty. They replaced EVERY moving part inside.. $1400. I had to pay the $100 deduct...

Then at 75k 4th started going out again.

It was just the springs pushing the gear holding bearings in place.
