Car was taken to the mechanic to replace leaking radiator. After repairs and drinving for about 3 minutes, car stopped. Gears were not catching in either forward or reverse. Mechanic says the gearbox already had a problem and the problem was already there. Specific model is a Rio LS, 2003
Can describe exactly how and why this happened?

Thank you.

Hello, I would check the electrical connector on the transmission, it sounds like they bumped it off or messed with the wiring somehow. Also check the tranmission fluid level, if they added fluid it needs to be OEM fluid or it can casue a malfunction. Is the check engine light on now? Please get back to us, we want to help you solve this problem.

any transmission can be repaired most of the time unless hard parts like a case is bad then you need another case. But has the radiator leaked water into transmission? if it is di yo have to stop or make sure that the new radiator isn't doing the same otherwise you 'll have same problem.
