Hi, my daughter wants to buy a Peugeot 207 Hatchback 1.4 VTI Sport 5DR (2011) but the advert says "on test drive we noticed slight noise from gearbox in low gears , drives really well , very good history with invoices and previous MOTs" is this noise likely to cause her problems and money. Thanks

Hello,

It sounds like that the transmission might require looking at by a specialist workshop for accurate diagnosis.

The most common cause of a noisy transmission is insufficient oil, causing the gears or internal assembly to hum or whir. If a noisy transmission does have enough oil, the lubricant may be contaminated with metal shavings or particles.

Insufficient or contaminated oil may cause the transmission to become noisy in some or all of the gears. But if you hear noises in specific gears, that gear's teeth or synchronizer may be worn or damaged.

Average prices for a good used transmission are around £350 excluding labor and clutch, if a new one is required.

Please let us know if you require any more specific advise

Cheers, Boris

Hi,

Thanks for letting us know. Always remember the old saying when it comes to buying a car, "Buyer Beware." LOL

Feel free to come back anytime in the future. You are always welcome here.

Take care,
Joe
