Gear/transmission shifting

Driving down the street I noticed car felt like it was holding back. Glanced at dash and the Neutral, N, was flashing. Like i had it in neutral. Then I noticed when I came to a stop it wasnt shifting gears , staying in low and the rpm was almost at 3. When I got to my destination I turned it off. Took care of my business then when I left it wasn't doing it anymore. App the computer has reset on it. Haven't had anymore trouble with it. But want to make sure this isn't going to be a big problem or just a computer glitch. Checked transmission fluid is full, not black or dirty/trash in it. I have noticed also lately when I first take off in drive it feel like i am dragging something or that feel like a tire locked up and not rolling but it only last couple seconds then stops. Had transmission changed about 6 years ago. Not long after that change I noticed it has a hard shift when shifting out of first to second. Been doing that for years.

This sounds like you had a shifter issue. We can check for codes which should have some stored that may point to the issue but the fact that it did not continue to do this after you shut it off points to a component issue like a module or even the shifter itself.

I did put a code reader on it, just a cheapo that I have so how well it works I don't know but the only code it brought up i looked up and it had nothing to do with the transmission. I think it was P0155 not sure ill run it again.

That is for an o2 sensor you are correct that this would not be related.

The next step if there are no codes is to check the pressure. This is not an easy thing to do but would be what we need to find out. I attached the process for your review.

That would be impossible for me to do, for one I do not have an pressure gauge. And taking it to mechanic is probably a no go, (depending on what they would charge to do it for me) I'm sure more than I could afford. Thank you anyway Kenny. You have been helpful. Sincerely,

You are more than welcome. however, I would advise to call around to some shops and at least find out what they charge to diagnose it. Most shops it is around $100.00 and then they will tell you what it needs. I doubt this is a sensor or something cheap but I would not want to make a decision without knowing for sure. Clearly if they tell you it needs a large repair, then your feeling of it being too expensive is confirmed but if it is a cheap repair then you can get it fixed. I always feel it is worth the investment of this diagnostic charge just to be sure.

If you don't want to even mess with it then I get that also. Either way, thank you for using 2CarPros.
