I am wondering if there is supposed to be a light inside the console to illuminate the letters for the gearshift. My VIN is: 1FMCU0GD5JUA35519.

Depending on the factory equipment some of the Escapes do not have the lights, the Titanium model have lights that illuminates letters on the console. The reason is that there is an indicator on the dash, so Ford did not put it in on some models.
