Hello, I will list the procedure for shift lever knob removal below, with a diagram attached below.

1. The floor shift control knob and boot are serviced as an assembly.
2. Loosen the set screw (3)
3. Push in at the base of the boot to release the locking tabs (2) from the console assembly.
4. Pull up to remove the knob and boot assembly from the transmission control (4).

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Hope this helps,
William

It will be a rather small screw and may be behind a small piece of plastic. After removing this you only need to pull up after disengaging the tabs on the boot.

I found the little screw and I did remove the floor shift control knob and boot assembly and the shift Interlock solenoid, if the solenoid is bad will it cause a stuck key? I can't pull the key out.

Hello,

No, a bad interlock will prevent you from shifting the gear selector out of Park. If the key is physically stuck in the tumbler you may have a mechanical issue with the tumbler. Does this key have a spring kickback feeling when you turn it to crank? If so what I do in this case is try to "flick" the key by turning it the same way you would when cranking the car but fast enough to let it go and the spring will kick the key back enough to get it out. Sounds weird over the internet, but it has worked for me many times. You might need to disconnect the battery to prevent the engine from starting a bunch of times. If this works we will need to replace the tumbler.

If you put 12 volts to it, you should be able to see it move.

It looks like there are two solenoids put 12 volts down the ltgrn/blk and then the drgrn/wht wires and listen for a click or movement. Let me know.

It sounds like you will need to replace the lock cylinder. I will post the instructions on cylinder removal below with pictures attached. Please let us know if you have any questions about this.

Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Disable the SIR system.
3. Remove the steering column trim covers.
4. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the start position.
5. Insert the tip of an awl into the access hole (1) of the ignition lock cylinder.
(see image 1)
6. Push down and hold the retaining pin of the ignition lock cylinder.
7. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the run position.
8. Remove the ignition lock cylinder by pulling the cylinder away from the steering column.
(see image 2)

Hello,

If you can break it down to the point where the instructions mention using an awl or pin to depress the lock, you can experiment with the mechanical mechanism on where it locks up on you. If it consistently locks up or it is intermittent, it is definitely worn out. More times than not, the issue you are experiencing is due to a tumbler that has worn out. In this case, you can buy a tumbler and matching key set or have the tumbler and existing key matched.
