I have a new clutch and linkage bushings. However, when I try to select a gear with engine on the seems very stiff no grinding with the clutch fully pressed. If I force it into gear it will go no pulling or grinding and will then cycle through the gears when I drive soon as I stop it will be very tough again I have to apply revs to ease it in.

Maybe I should lubricate the whole linkage maybe? The car was sat for two years, but I have completely overhauled everything she runs a dream it is just this gear change.

check your hydraulic system on clutch for a full reservoir then bleed clutch see if that improves.

Sorry should have mentioned I have bought a new slave cylinder and bleed the life out of it. I get full movement on the slave rod when I push the clutch its consistent pressure on the pedal after the initial play. I 90% sire the clutch is disengaged fully I start the car force one into four (no grind) put it to Neutral and apply 4k revs and push I into reverse no grinding at all so that would say clutch is disengaged yes? Do you have another way to check the disengagement?

sounds to me like if there is an adjustment then that is the problem or the clutch is bad.

Yeah the clutch is fine because once I get it into first with engine on which is v stiff but not like I am going to push the thing through the firewall, lol. I can drive AMD change gear with almost ease I took it for a spin two days ago v fast semi quick shifts up AMD down no issue but soon as I stop and try change gear it is stiff for first time again.

still sounds like something with the clutch or hydraulics. try gravity bleeding slave then tighten screw then bleed with a helper or power bleeder. it should work right from the get go.

So I have been working hard to diagnosing this issue lol. So I jacked up the font of the car and turned it over and she glides into gears with ease. However I noticed the drivers side brake seems to be locking up or dragging investigating that soon. Could this be causing the issue maybe

yes it may be check for a frozen caliper holding the brake on or a bad hose if hose is bad replace both in front. also make sure caliper slides easily in bracket.

Well I have fixed the brake issue locking pin had sized I removed it cleaned it up like new again. In your experience is there a way to test clutch engagement with the front end jacked up. I turn car on in neutral wheels spin which I believe is normal.

the wheels will spin in neutral if front end is jacked up. if you can't shift it into first then it's either a clutch or synchro/fork problem in trans or something bent with out me physically checking this i'll leave this question open and see if another tech can come up with an answer for you.

Car shifts perfectly into gear with the front end jacked up. Feels nice when I am in first I put clutch in and brakes on wheels stop would suggest its not the clutch? Maybe stiff linkage when required to use more pressure ?

Hello,

The problem is the clutch not dis-engaging fully this is why it is tough to put into gear. When the wheels roll it makes it easier because the input shaft of the transmission is turning which it doesn't when the car is in use. My guess is the disc is bent which happens when installing the transmission sometimes.

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers, Ken
