Gear lever is stuck?

Gear lever is stuck on reverse and is "loose" can't move to the sides. Any help and enlightened to how I can check this will be appreciated.

Hi,

Based on how loose it is, it appears a cable has broken. There are two cables between the shifter and the transmission. One is a shift cable, and the other is a select cable. See pic below.

Check to confirm they are both attached and moving when you move the shifter. If they are and appear to be moving, go to the transmission side where they connect. See if something is broken at that point.
