What could be the problem when the sound of acceleration doesn't correlate with speed? When the car's speed gets to 80/90 on the speedometer the sound of the engine becomes loud and unbearable and as such need reduce the speed. Please, what could likely be the issue? Thanks

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

I have a few questions. First, is the check engine light staying on with the engine running? Next, are there exhaust leaks? I'm a bit confused on you post. You mention that the vehicle speed doesn't correlate with the sound on acceleration. Does it seem as though the transmission may be slipping? Also, the noise you hear at high speeds, do you hear it at lower speeds? If you do, can you describe the sound? For example, does it sound like a grinding or a humming sound? Is there anything that changes the sound at low speeds?

Let me know.

Thanks, Mr. Joe for your prompt answer. I am delighted and appreciative of your concern and love.
Firstly, for the check engine. it doesn't stay on when the engine is running. There's no ruling out of the possibility of exhaust leak. Will definitely check it because i earlier thought the sound of A Quatro Golf 4 & Model is actually high than normal. Probably, i mistook it to be normal.
In fairness, the Humming sound is not heard at low speed level. The engine sound is only heard at High speed level. This morning, on my way to work, at 80km/hr the speedometer failed to rise above it and the acceleration slipped. Thank you for being there

Hi and welcome back:

You are very welcome. We need to figure this out. Based on your description, it sounds like the transmission is slipping. When this happens, do the engine RPM's increase but the vehicle fail to accelerate?

Let me know.

Exactly, the car's rev per minutes when it get to 30 does not increase the acceleration speed. It even aches my heart when it does that. Thanks so much

Welcome back:
It seems the transmission is slipping. Make sure the fluid in the transmission is clean and full. It should be pinkish red in color. Take a look through this link. It discusses common problems with automatic transmissions. One is slipping.

Let me know if anything in the link helps or mirrors the symptoms you have.
