car wont start after running out of gas even after I filled the tank

I ran out of gas, i put gas back in, but the car still wont start even after turning the key to on and I got the fuel gauge to come on.

try hitting bottom of tank with palm of your hand or rubber mallet, when you ran out of gas you took lube away from pump sometimes they will start and run like that but do not know for how long.
