A friend brought me his car that has been parked for 2 years, it used to start and run fine. A friend of his wanted to install a push button to start it so he started the job by running a wire from the starter to the front but never did finish it, i disconnected the starter wire he added, ignition wire was never connected. So he wants me to just get it right And sell it. I put a new battery in it and there is nothing no power whatsoever. When they towed it they disconnected the linkage between the electrical gearbox and the shifter underneath which is a pin. I out that back but the steering column shifter still at free play you can change hears freely no resistance. I think the gear selector has an electrical part that must have power for the gear selector to work cause it is not a cable. Is there a fusible link on these cars? I just need to see why there is no power even with a battery.

Hi,

Because of the model year, I have no schematics to reference. However, I will try my best to help.

When you say there is no power, do you mean that nothing electrical works? Also, does the shifter feel disconnected?

Let me know.

If I had the vehicle, I would likely start at the underhood fuse box to confirm power from the battery is being distributed. I'm sorry, but without a wiring schematic, I can't picture what you are dealing with. Is it possible for you to upload a few pics? Also, as far as the shifter, are you able to see linkage on the transmission?

Let me know.

Battery in the trunk, cables good back there, had power fine before the idiot tried to install a wire to the starter. Looked in glove box fuses nothing to do with power to the car. I will send you a picture of the transmission canle.

From the battery positive, is there a power supply to a junction/fuse box? If so, check to see if power is there. If nothing electrical works, then there has to be a disruption in power between the battery and the power distribution box. Also, make sure the ground is good. That can open the circuit as well.

Let me know.

Sounds good. Let me know if you have questions and if you find the distribution box. It has to have direct power from the battery, so you should be able to follow the power supply to it.

Take care,
