Fuel sending unit voltage too high

I cannot get my fuel gauge to work properly and seem to be getting ten volts at times. I have seen it work properly at times when I am getting five volts which is where it should be. Any suggestions? I have checked the ohm readings from the sending unit and they seem to be good at eighty empty four at full. The voltage at the fuel pump harness should be five but I am seeing ten which I believe is causing my problem. The gauge will not go below about 2/3 of a tank.

Have you checked to see if you have any trouble codes in the computer? They a lot of the time set a code for fuel level sensor high voltage/input. Most of the time it is just a bad fuel level sensor. I had a Nissan Path Finder was setting that code and the fuel gauge starting working less and less. it was a bad fuel level sensor. Here is a guide how to retrieve the trouble codes from the computer. Also, if you do not live in California you can go to a auto parts store like auto zone and they read them for free. Let me know the exact code numbers not code descriptions.
