Bought my car used. It ran like a champ for months. The driver's side low beam went out. Had both low beams replaced. Drove home. The next day it would not crank at all. That was October 2021. Changed the battery. It tries but still will not start. Change the fuel filter. Same, it tries but will not start. Was informed it had no fuel pressure. Ordered the proper tool to remove the pump. Attempted to remove the fuel pump. Car now reeks of gasoline. It has a full tank. I was not aware I had to release the pressure of the gas line/tank/pump. Best way to drain off some gas? Is there only one type of pump that fits my car? I'm struggling to get this done. The price to put it in the shop is outlandish. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So, it sounds like at this point you have completed the repair or replacing the pump, but it smells of gas and it doesn't start? However, you replaced the pump to correct the no start condition? Did it crank but just not start?

If this is the case, then I am attaching the complete process from the manual.

As for draining the tank, the best way is to try and siphon some out or you are going to have to use a jack in order to lower it safely and then drain some of the fuel out. If you can begin to drop the tank and then start siphoning some out, then that would work as well.

However, I would just make sure that the fuel smell that you have is not you. A lot of times when you replace the fuel pump the fuel is all over you and then you sit in the vehicle, and it gets all over your seat.

If it is not, you then I suspect you did not get the pump sealed correctly.

Please take a look at this info and let me know what questions you have.

Thanks
