While I was pumping gas and got done pumping the gas tried to crank my truck up and it wouldn’t crank, it would make the cranking sound like it was stuck but wouldn’t actually crank. okay, found out it was the fuel pump, got a brand new fuel pump and it was put on this past Friday. tonight was I was driving it just cut off on me, I tried to crank it back up and it’s doing the same thing, making the cranking noise like it’s stuck but not cranking. Could it be the fuel pump was not good or what? I got it from a auto parts store new with a lifetime warranty on it.

Hi,

It is very possible. The only way to confirm is to check for fuel pressure. Or, see if it starts for a couple of seconds using starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we know it is a fuel related issue.

Here are a couple of links you may find helpful. The first shows how to check fuel pressure and the second is for a crank no start condition.

Do me a favor, see if it starts using starting fluid and then stalls, and let me know. I will watch for your reply.

Take care,
Joe

Do that and let me know what he finds. If we determine it is the pump, I can help you get it replaced.

Let me know.

My mechanic has put 2 fuel pumps on the vehicle and it still cuts off. could it be something blocking the fuel pump? because these both are brand new pumps.

It could be a number of things. When it cranks and doesn't restart, check to see if there is spark to the plugs. It could be a problem related to the crankshaft position sensor.

Take a look through this link and see if anything mirrors what you experience:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/symptoms-of-a-bad-crankshaft-sensor

Next, is it possible for you to record it cranking so I can hear it?

Let me know. If you suspect the sensor, you can check to see if there is spark to the plugs or if your helper has a live data scan tool, he can check to see if there is an RPM signal.

Let me know.
