I have the truck listed above with a 460. I'm not mechanically inclined. Recently the truck started and was warming up then shut off. I may have run out of gas. So, I put a couple of gallons in it. It cranks but won't start. Looking to the carburetor no gas is getting to the carburetor. I sprayed some starter fluid, and it did start for a few seconds. Clearly, I'm not getting fuel to carburetor. Any ideas for me to get her started? Thanks for any suggestions. Again, Im a novice but am good at following directions.

Hi,

If the tank was empty, you may have picked up dirt and clogged the fuel filter. How much fuel did you add?

Let me know.

Hi,

I agree with you about not getting fuel. If I had the vehicle, I would start by removing the fuel supply hose at the carb. Run the fuel line into a fuel container and have a helper crank the engine. See if there is any fuel coming out. If there is, then I would suspect the needle valve is stuck closed preventing fuel from entering the carb.

If there is no fuel at the carb, then I would disconnect the fuel supply line at the mechanical fuel pump and check to see if the fuel is making it to that point. Also, because of the model year, check to see if someone has added a fuel filter at any point that could be clogged. If you start at the carb and follow the fuel supply line, it will take you to the pump on the side of the engine and from there to the fuel tank. See if there is anything someone may have added that could be clogged.

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
