fuel level sensor issue

This could be a float issue.

I attached the operation of the sensor and it takes the position of the float via a voltage signal and sends that to the ECM. Then the ECM sends that to the cluster for it to display the proper reading.

So to confirm this, we need to check voltage output from the sensor or use a scan tool to monitor the voltage output from the sensor.

Once we know this, we will know the position of the float.

Either this or you would need to replace the pump assembly.

I already replaced it and it was correct at the close to empty level, from previously being in full position, but now it is going up not enough when I fill gas. is it possible it got stuck against a wire or a hose and therefore not being able to move? I know it has power, I tested it before installing it.

Okay. Just to confirm, you replaced the entire assembly and not just the sensor? If so, then yes. It most likely is stuck as it appears the gauge and wiring are working. So it appears to be displaying what the float is telling it. I suspect we need to just double check it.

Yes, power is good and i replaced the whole assembly. It's a big one and am just not sure how it supposed to sit for it not to be stuck.

Yeah. I have never done one on an Xterra so I can't speak from experience but I included a picture of the assembly and orientation to the front of the vehicle. Hopefully this helps.

I turned the whole assembly a bit and watched the gauge and it went up to half, it works now. thanks guys
