I've been fueling my vehicle with 89 octane. I just went for maintenance on my vehicle and they told me I need to use 93 octane instead. If I use 89, they said I would be messing up my catalytic converter. They recommended Shell and Mobil.
I've been using Lucas oil when fueling with 89 octane.

Good afternoon,

First, all fuel is the same. It is branded from the refinery for each brand. One is not better than the other.

I attached the requirements below for you for the fuel octane. It is recommended 87 or higher. It will not damage the converter at all. The higher the octane, the better the performance.

I would not use any additives either. The fuel has all the additives that is needed.

Roy

So why did the repair shop (Hank May's GoodYear) tell me that the cat get dirty using 87 octane which will cause the catalytic converter to be replaced?
