So, I changed the fuel pump in my car, it runs great, but the gas gauge is not working now. And I tried to do that reset that they show on Goggle but nothing happened. Any suggestions would be great.

Hi,

What is happening at the gauge? Is it showing an inaccurate level or doing nothing? I ask because when you replaced the fuel pump, the fuel level float and rheostat are part of the assembly. I've seen the float get bent causing an inaccurate reading. Also, the rheostat may be faulty. (See pic below)

Let me know.

Not all of that is fine I even took it back out to check it. The gauge is the issue because it shows a low fuel light. And when you start the car, I can see the needle move but it just stays on empty. I know it works because it was working before replacement. I even looked online to do a reset and that didn't work either. At that point I called the dealership to see if they could reset it. They said they don't work on that. I am like what you do work on Toyota's right. No answer.

Hi,

Wow... It's amazing what people will say and do. As far as a reset, there really isn't one for the fuel gauge. I'm not sure what you saw online.

The idea that the fuel light is on, and the gauge moves slightly leads me to believe the rheostat is faulty. To check it, you check the voltage from it when moving the level float, but it needs to be out of the vehicle.

Did you replace the entire module including the fuel level float and rheostat?

Yes, I had my wife drive it to work today and now it reads half a tank I will be filling it up. And run it around this weekend to see if it self-adjust. And I'll get back with you. Maybe the system just needed to be run to reset. If not, I may buy another pump and see if that changes anything. It's just weird.

Hi,

Thanks for the update. I'm wondering if we have a poor connection at some point. Regardless, let me know if it stops working again and we'll figure it out.

Take care,

Joe
