Where is the fuel filter located in my car? I have looked in all of these suggested areas and do not see it. Is it inside the fuel tank? If yes, how do I access it to change the filter myself?

The fuel filter is located on the fuel feed pipe, between the fuel pump and the fuel rail under the car toward the fuel tank. You will need to raise the car in the air to get to it.

Here is a guide that should help.

Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent possible discharge of fuel if an accidental attempt is made to start the engine.

Loosen the fuel filler cap to relieve tank pressure.

This procedure calls for a fuel pressure test gauge with a line equipped with a fitting to connect to the to the fuel pressure test connection and another hose to discharge into an approved gasoline container. Wrap a shop towel around the pressure test fitting connection while connecting gauge to avoid spillage.
Install the bleed hose into an approved container and open the valve to bleed fuel system pressure. The fuel connections are now safe for servicing.
Drain any fuel remaining in the gauge into an approved container.
Reconnect the negative battery cable unless additional service work is being performed.

Hello, my info shows, under the vehicle, rear of gas tank. You may have to safely raise and support the vehicle to get a look at it?

It is under vehicle, center, below trunk area, rear of fuel tank, mounted in fuel line and Pontiac does not list a mileage interval to replace the fuel filter. If you suspect low fuel pressure than the fuel filter is a good place to start diagnostics.

fuel filter is by the gas tankon side of frame. But check for codes, cross A&B at aldl count the flashes to see if there are any other codes besides code 12. Also check fuel pressure, if port fuel it should be41-47 psi if TBI 9-11

hi, thanks for the donation, my info shows it is in the fuel line, next to carb. Are you saying it cranks good but won't start, or it won't even crank?

You may be headed in the right direction. If you open the choke and look down throttle-bore while working the accelerator, can you see gas squirt? If not, possible problem with fuel pump-- filter--maybe you need to put a carb kit in it.

Nope, no squirting anything. Except for my patience...whatever that means...LOL
Anyway, I am thinking do the pump first then if that doesn't fix it THEN the carb. Correct?

You guys are great!! What a great service you offer!

We try to help. You might take the fuel supply line loose from the carb, aim into proper container, Have helper crank engine, see if any gas comes out. I can usually get a rubber fuel line over the flare on a steel line. If no gas comes out, I'd have to check mechanical fuel pump. You might smell of crankcase oil dipstick, if smells like gas, I'd definitely change the fuel pump. Oil and filter, also.
