Replaced mechanical fuel pump, but it will not draw fuel from tank. I can pour gas into carb and it will fire right up and run fine, good throttle response until it runs out of fuel in the bottom on intake from carb. Fuel filter will be almost empty but after it sits for about 3 minutes it will slowly fill the fuel filter back up, and then empty it as soon as the truck is started again. Was going to install an electric pump and bypass mechanical pump completely. Before I do that, however, I would like to see if i can get it to draw fuel using factory style pump. Any ideas why it will not draw fuel?

trace lines and hoses back to the tank. you will find a cracked hose or bad line that stops the vacuum effect of the pump

Thanks, that was my next move on it. Its been sitting for almost 2 years. Master cylinder fail on previous owner, and he didn't want to fix it. He would go start it about once a month until it ran out of gas, then battery died, tires went flat and he gave me the truck for free. May not have been anything wrong w/old pump but didn't want to trust 2 years of dry rot on the diaphragm. Thanks a lot for suggestion.

eplaced hoses, seemed to supply fuel fine but carb was leaking fuel out of all the gaskets. I rebuilt the carburetor but now it's back to same problem where fuel pump doesn't keep up and will not run unless, again, fuel is dumped down carb. Any more ideas?
