So one day I filled up at a Chevron and as soon as the car started up it threw the check engine light. I was confused and when I went to check what it was it gave me 4 codes which to this point have gone back and forth but are P0300, P0171, P2097, P0131, P0420. The P0420 came on yesterday, I have done almost everything except replace the o2 sensors which include; cleaning out fuel system, cleaning o2 sensors, checking for vacuum leaks, checking for exhaust leaks, replaced air filter and check engine light has continued to stay on. After I cleaned out the o2 sensor the car felt better but I noticed that while driving it around town all week the car runs smooth, stops idling weird and even reached the point where it shut off the check engine light by itself last week but as soon as I drive it for a good period of time such as 30 minutes plus it starts idling weird and misfiring and the codes come back on. The new o2 sensors will arrive tomorrow but I just wanted to know I am on the right track. thanks

Good morning,

There is no cleaning of the O2 sensors.

The 300 and 171 indicate running lean. I would check the fuel pressure. Low fuel pressure from a failed fuel pump is the main reason for those codes.

The 420 is a bad cat converter. It needs to be replaced as the precious metals are worn out inside.

The 2097 code is also for lean condition as well.

Start with checking the fuel pressure.

Fuel pressure’s good, I replaced both bank 1 o2 sensors and all the codes went away except P0300 and a new one P1128 but the car is running better now.

Okay, can you give me the long term trim percentages on the O2 sensors?
