Ignition module?

I would suspect the ignition module or the pick up coil in the distributor.

Removal

1. Remove two screws retaining ignition control module heatsink assembly to left fender apron.
2. Disconnect harness connector from ignition control module .
3. Remove two screws retaining ignition control module to heatsink and remove ignition control module .

Is there a way to test or do you just wing it? inni mini mini mo it which one. would you try first? lol

When it does not start, use a test light.

You hook the alligator clip to the negative battery cable and the probe on the negative side of the coil.

With the key in the on position. the light should light. Then have someone crank the engine. The test light should flash.

Will that tell which to replace first ignition module or pick up in distributor?

That is just to test if the spark system is working.

Okay, I did the test on the coil and it lights up when I turn the key on and flashes when I crank the truck.

Do you have spark at the plugs? If you do not, then you need a coil. The module and pickup are working.

No, there's no spark at the plug. so you believe it's a coil? I hope so. this has been on going . the thing that was throwing me off is when I leave the key on for about 15 minutes it will start and run fine. I'll replace the coil and let you know what happens. thanks
