I have been having a particularly annoying clicking/rattling issue with my front passenger side door panel for the better part of a year now. The car was just at the local Toyota dealership for this issue and for the 5th time I have been told they could not “duplicate” the issue. Within 4 hours of getting the car back the same sounds continued very frequently and duplicate easily. I am wondering what could be the root cause of this noise. I have included videos of me manually duplicating the sound and the sound naturally occurring while driving through a parking lot at low speed.

Hello,

It sounds like a relay clicking off and on, it is a bit hard to tell from the video. But if you can isolate the noise down to one particular part , probably under the driver side dash. Then we can probably find out what the component is from the wire coloring. But feel down there for a relay clicking, and with it being that loud, you should be able to feel it to identify which one it is. Let us know what you find. Also are you having any malfunctioning systems, such as blinkers or any other symptoms?

We need to remove the front door panel to confirm the source of the noise, it could be the door latch shorting out. Here is how you remove the panel in the diagrams below. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Since I am not confident enough to remove the door panel without the possibility of breaking or damaging something, getting a response will most likely take some time as the vehicle will have to again go back to the dealership to have the panel removed.

If you do decide to take the door panel off yourself, make sure you disconnect the negative battery cable first, and wait at least 5 minutes, because you have to disconnect the door side airbag sensor. You don't want to accidentally set off an airbag. It's part of the supplement restraint system.
