when I first start the car in the morning and start driving it makes a noise like metal to metal after 5 or 10 minutes it goes away. Les Swabb said my brakes are fine, but just don't sound right when you hear metal to metal .what can I look for in some front end serviceable? does it need to be lubed maybe and greased? could use all the help I can. thank you

Hi,

What you described can be the brakes. What happens oftentimes is the rotors will begin rusting when not used. When you start driving it again, it sounds like the brakes are bad until the rust is cleaned off. Then it goes away.

Before driving it tomorrow, check to see if there is any rust on the brake rotors. You should be able to see it through the wheel.

I attached a pic below showing a rotor and highlighted where the pads will touch. Check that area for rust.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe

Thanks Joe. no rust I even went to Les Swabb they said everything looked good it just does not sound right. I do know if it has something to do with the frontend as soon as I stop moving it stops.

A belt doesn't stop when I stop moving and by the time I get to a mechanic there's no sound anymore. it has gone away only last like a block or two.

Since it stops when you do, the brakes have been checked, and there is nothing apparent, we likely should check wheel bearings.

Is there any change in the tone or sound when you turn? Is it loud enough for you to record and upload for me to hear?

Try this. Before you drive it, safely lift one front wheel at a time off the ground. Place your hands at 6 and 12oclock and wiggle the wheel. Can you feel any play or noise that could indicate something is loose?

Let me know.
