Front end binding and clunking

When in four-wheel drive it binds up and clunks and when in two-wheel drive. it floats all over the road are these related to each other and how to fix?

Good morning,

The first thing I would do is to replace or service the wheel bearings on the front wheels. Old hard grease will cause this issue.

Due to the age, I would replace the inner and outer bearings and races.
