Truck only starts when temperature is warm

My Ford 302 (1974) won't start in the morning or early afternoon. I am getting fuel and plenty of spark and can smell fuel so assume it may be flooding.

however, in the afternoon, I will go out and the truck will start right away and runs great.

I've replaced the fuel filter, put in a carb kit.

The outside temperature is warm - 50 degrees in the morning and 75 in the afternoon.

Choke possibly malfunctioning??? Is the choke electrically assisted or totally vacuum operated???

Electric Choke. If it was cold weather conditions, I would suspect the choke, but since it is at least 50-60 degrees in the morning vs 75 in the afternoon, I would assume the choke wouldn't be that sensitive to such a small variation in temperature...

why not look at the choke before you start it...don't forget to pump the pedal once first! The choke thermostat on the side of the carb is famous for loosing tension in warm wheather...Not hard to replace, if ya can find one!

Thanks - I'll try that. I read in my manual that there is a 60 degree temperature factor that the choke uses to determine whether to go the electric choke route or the temperature assist. It has to be tbe choke, because the truck starts and runs perfectly in the afternoon. This problem has driven me absolutely crazy!
