2003 Ford Windstar Idle

I have an 03 windstar SEL amd i have been having a problem with the idle. sometimes it will jump up to any where from 1800 to 2500 RPMs. It has been said that this motor has an intake gasket problem. how ever this is not a steady problem and spme times I can stop and restart and it will clear up.

It sounds like a problem with the idle air control motor (IAC). Try removing it and cleaning it to see if that makes any change.

Let me know what you find.

I am sorry that it has taken so long to reply. I tried your idea and I think that it is not as bad how ever it still kicks up the RPMs up to 2000 to 2200 when it see's fit (when ever it likes). Any other ideas about this?

Did the IAC make any change?

After I cleaned the IAC I think that it slowed it down a little, how ever it still jumps to 2000 or 2200 RPMS when it feel like it..

There has to either be a vacuum leak, the IAC is bad, or the TPS is bad.

After your last email on the TPS being bad I had planed to chang this past weekend however mt wife come home with check engine lite on and I took to auto zone and the code was for low or no voltage on the TPS. I changed it and seems to be working great now. Thank you Michael
