When making a right hand turn into a parking lot, there was a loud pop that sound like someone had rearended us. then went to give it gas and would not move. So we figure the transmission has went out. After talking with a local transmission guy he stated that there is a spring in the transmission that has broke, and it would have to be rebuilt. well my question is would it be cheaper to purchase a used transmission or go ahead and have the mechanic rebuild the existing one?

Thanks,

Shaun

Hi Shaun,

You can search the net for used a used tranny and probably find one for less than $1000. I am sure you were or will get a quote to rebuild for $1,500 - $2,500.

Here are a few places I have looked....

www.djautoparts.com

www.motorstransmissions.com

www.midwestautorecycling.com

If they offer free shipping the only way you will get it is if the part is shipped to a business. So, if you know anyone who owns a business ask them if you can have it shipped there.
