My 98 F windstar, 150k mi, 3.8 liter auto transmission. starts and runs fine when cold. when warm it starts easy but sputters, runs rough, stumbles and will stall unless I nurse gas pedal till I get moving. Then it runs well. No check engine light or codes, I have a very cheap code reader.

Exprimented with it today, It will start without problem for 5/10/15 min after that it starts as I described. However today was unusually cold for FL, in the 60's.
Next time mislead me with the cheap repair!

You put me on the right track. The boiling fuel made sense, but the motor tempature never rises, so is not likely the problem! I inspected the fuel lines and engine comparment airflow paying extra attention to the hood insulation and could find no problems. Now I am cheep and am not going to pay to have your suggestion carried out by a mechanic, and I'm lazy so I am putting off doing it.
Then I am pumping gas, I look at the pump, the sign says contains up to 10% ethanol. Just like in the cartoons the light bulb goes off over my head. The first time I had this problem was right after I fueled, I thought I had got a bad tank of gas.
I call my rocket scientist friend Brian Bors, everybody should have a friend like Brian. I ask about the boiling point of alcohol, he replys that the boiling point of alcohol is ??( i dont reember) and that it is much lower than gasoline.
So anyway to make a long story short, I am on my third tank of non ethanol gas and have had no problems!!! I also think my engine runs better, but that is of course subjective, and it seems my fuel milage is better, but I do not keep tract.
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction and will keep you posted.
