1998 Ford Windstar brake fuse blows #7

1998 Ford Windstar 6 cyl Automatic

I have a issue with #7 brake fuse blowing as soon as you hit the brake pedal. I disconnected and cleaned the pressure switch connector as I have read that later windstars had the pressure switch fill with brake fluid and create a short. I also replaced the brake light switch at the pedal. as a result of this I cannot get the vehicle out of gear as this runs on the same circuit. I looked at the stop lamp bulbs,they appear to be ok, I am thinking it may be the shift interlock solenoid but, cannot find any info on this or where it may be located. any ideas what may be causing this?

Lots of ABS problems most have to do with a bad Control mod, these can be had cheap now at the site posted in this LONG string.

do you think the abs module is shorted? causing #7 fuse to blow?

Are the abs and red brake lights on? If yes, it's likly, but try pulling the big 40 amp fuses talked about in the post, it may work...

no! there is no other lights lit also no other fuses are blowing.

When you first turn the key to the on position, does the ABS light and red brake light, check engine light, do these come on then go out?

I will check tonight. I thought I had it licked this weekend. I noticed a connector that was unplugged into the abs box and possibly grounding out. I plugged it back in and checked the the fuse and everything worked with no #7 fuse blowing. after driving it I realized why it was disconnected, the abs would go off almost every time i hit the brake. at this point I disconnected and drove it up until sunday night when it blew again Grrrr. I noticed some other connectors that I was thinking about disconnecting to see if the abs unit is shorting inside. what are your thoughts on this?

What did the pedal do? If it pulses at low speed, and NO ABS dash light comes on, check for play in the wheel bearings(hub). If the fuse blows you need to trace the wire from the fusepanel to the ABS or other circuit involed and OHM it.
