Hello,

I'm trying to diagnose a problem on my Windstar. No fuel pressure. I jumped to the conclusion of the problem being the pump. That replaced, along with the filter and still no fuel. Then I started to troubleshoot it. I found that when I jumped power to pin 5 on the Relay module the pump ran, so I replaced it. Still the same problem. If I put power to pin # 5 (direct to the inertia switch) on the module the pump runs. I have no power from the pin 13,8 or 10 as my diagram shows. I do show power on some of the pins but just not the ones the manual calls for. I've doubled checked I have the correct pins. I can't find any diagrams to help me get any further testing. Any help?

Pin 11 is hot all the time, pin 13 should be hot with the key on. The computer grounds the pump relay in order to energize. With the engine cranking, do you have spark at the plugs?

When you first turn the key on, no crank, does the pump run for a couple seconds? With the relay unplugged and the key on, how many hot terminals at the relay? Should be two? If that checks out, You need to check if computer is grounding the relay, lite blue wire with orange stripe.

Thanks, just to be clear. I'm not aware of any seperate fuel pump relay other than the CCRM module. Is that correct?

Ok, in response to the pump running with the key on. No it doesn't. If I jump pwr to the #5 wire it does run and the vehicle will start. I checked the LT Blue wire with an orange stripe for ground. Key off it was good, key On, no good. Which seems very strange. I then grounded it with the key on but it didn't afffect anything. What I appear to have is no power or ground correctly to the module at least not with the key on. Does the computer drive all of this?

With the key on, do you have two hot terminals at the relay? The lite blue wire with orange tracer should be ground, engine cranking.

With the module disconnected and key on I have Battery V at pins 1,2,6,7,10,12 and 24. 11 has about 8v. The LT Blu/O is a good ground during cranking.

8v on pin 11 sounds low to me, how about pin 13?

Yes, 8 volts seems low but I can't find where that comes from. Nothing at pin 13 when unplugged, but when plugged in it has battery v.

Look at the diagram, the circuit for 11 comes from fuse N--20 amp, engine compartment fuse box, left side of engine. Check the voltage there at the fuse, if a big difference between the fuse and pin11, something wrong with the wiring circuit or connector.

Should be noted that when you turn the key to the run position the pump only energizes for about two seconds to prime the system. The pump does NOT run continually when the key is on but the engine is not running.
I doubt that the customer was able to get to the voltage check point in 2 seconds so he could check voltage before the power cut off. This would only be possible if the voltmeter was hooked up and the customer could see the dial as he turned the key.
Perhaps some clearer instructions could have saved a lot of agravation.
