100,000 Miles. This is my sons car. He came home last night from work and told me that when his car is in park it makes a knocking/tapping sound. I listened to it and it almost sounded like a rod knocking. Today I listened more closely and it is not comeing from the lifters or valves or anywhere in that area. It is actually coming from the drivers side of the engine/engine compartment. I can't put my finger on it exactly. It only happens when it is park, neutral, when you first start out driving, or when it is shifting between gears while driving. Any ideas on what it could be?

If you are in the driveway car in park when you rev the engine, does it speed up and decrease with the RPM's? If yes it's either a rod bearing or wrist pin!
