1999 Ford Truck weld axles then put in lathe

i`m in the process of putting rear wheel bearings in my truck. i`m debating whether i should weld my worn axles and then turn them in the lathe to save money or just pick up a set either from the junk yard or off of the internet. i have 236000 miles on it and despite the cash for clunkers i am still planning on keeping it. thanks
