1976 Ford Truck over charging

Disconnect the EVR and test the battery voltage while engine is iding is it still overcharging

ok i found a new problem while checking what you told me i noticed that the red-green wire comming from the ignition switch was verry hot and it seems to go to the I on the alternator regulator all this happened while the regulator was un hooked and the battery was gurgleing do you have any sugestions????? the vehicle was running.

Its still overcharging-inspect and test the wires that goes to the ignition switch and charge indicator from the alty for short and open wire

i have a question can i change the alternator out for a alternator without a external charge regulator but with a internal regulator that way i can do away with a lot of wiring

Have you tried replacing the regulator-To answer your Q-could be done if you wire it correctly

i changed the regulator ive changed every thing and Ive went thru all the wiring and it still overcharges

Try running it w/o the regulator-Is it still overcharging if so you still have a wiring problem between the regulator and alternator

i have a stupid question if the truck is running and the hot cable is removed is it supposed to die??? with a alternator with a external regulator???

Nothing is stupid unless its not asked-its suppose to keep running

No there's no ground wire that goes to the charge indicator

What's your problem -there's no ground circuit to charge indicator it comes from the ignition switch thru the indicator and back to the alternator for field excitation. Right now you're lost in the woods and you need my help that's why I responded not trying to be a ( bad word )

You got 4 wires going to the voltage regulator IASF there's no ground there the alternator housing provides the ground

i found that the voltage meter wasnt working i think it need to have volts to go thru to go back to the battery does it need to have volts to go thru to get back to charge the battery
