1995 Ford Thunderbird, 143,000 miles: In late December 2005, I started experiencing issues with my car where I would be driving and, with no pattern of similarity, the rpm's would fluctuate it felt as if none of that heightened rpm's was helping the performance of the car. So, i stopped driving it and 3 weeks later I tried to start and see if the problem persisted. I would put the car in drive or reverse or whatever gear and I had to really rev up the engine for the car to move at all. I then checked the transmission fluid levels, which had been serviced just a month prior, and there was nothing in there. So I added fluid and was able to drive it around my neighborhood with virtually no problem. Then after I parked in my driveway I went inside and came back out 10 or 15 minutes later and noticed a big puddle of transmission fluid coming from the trans pan. I bought a new trans pan gasket in order to help prevent leakage, but I don't know if that is all that needs to be done to make my car work correctly. My father said it could have problems with the torque convertor (the rpm fluctuations) and the pan or maybe a general transmission problem. Does this sound like an easy fix?

With that many miles you need a tranny overhaul AND a torque converter. Good Luck
