what to do to fix odometer that works off and on

Apparently this is a really common problem with these cars (mine included). If the trip odometer is reset while the vehicle is in motion it will strip the gears to the odometer. At least that is the way I understood it from a Ford forum - someone please correct me if I am wrong.
To fix it - You can no longer buy replacement parts from Ford for these cars. They have been deemed obsolete. I bought an instrument cluster off Ebay and it seems to work great. I have done a google search for odometer repair and there is several shops you can send it in to and they will fix for you. I think some even offer the gears if you would like to change it yourself.
