My daughter's car gets stuck in park. If you apply the brake over and over while turning the wheel back and forth it will eventually come out and go as smooth as a hot knife through butter. It will get stuck again as soon as you put it back in park. Any ideas as to what the problem may be?

Does the shifter feel loose? iF not it is either the shift-lock solenoid or the brake switch for the solenoid. I could look it up, but i need to know the real year of the car, didnt make Tempo's in 97

OK, to start see if the brake lights come on every time you push on the pedal. Find the brake light switch on the pedal assembly, there should be a red/ lt green wire. Use a test light to see if ti is getting 12 volts when pedal is depressed. If so go to th elock solenoid on the bottom of the column, check same wire there for 12 volts as wellas the gray/yellow.If ok,be sure th eblk wire has good ground if it does the shift-lock actuator is bad
