1994 Ford Tempo Headlight switch

What are the steps involved in replacing the headlight switch? What happens is, I go to pull on the headlights, and the dashboard lights do not come on. I push the switch back in about halfway to the parking light stop, and the dash lights come on, trouble with that is that one bump, and the headlights go out. I need VERY specific step by step instructions please.
