just bought and this am when going to drive, the rpm gage didnt work for the first time.

a lot of tempos dont have it! pretend yours dont either? and think of it this way? if somthin's gonna brake when you buy it, you got lucky! and, maybe it will start workin again on it's own, give it a while!

right, as long as car runs fine, it's no big deal. the tach is purely electrical and just reads spark signals off coil by tapping into coil/module circuit. so it probably is a tach related problem only. wiring plug loss of continuity most likely. i have an older tempo that has intermittent wiring problems due to plug/contact corrosion. the contacts turn green/grey discoloration. it's an age/climate related thing.
