loud cracking noise when turning and breaking

Ford Taurus 1999 138,000 kilometers. When turning and breaking there is a loud cracking noise in the front end of the car. The mechanic couldn't find the problem. Any ideas? Thanks!

I’m not saying that this is your problem, but I had a similar noise. It turned out to be the front strut rod bushing. The rod goes from the lower control arm, into the front frame. The housing that the front bushing sat in, had broken off inside the frame. It would move and make that noise when I would turn the wheel or brake. They just welded the housing back into the frame and it has been fine. Good luck
